Check the refund available on your car insurance

Allstate (also Esurance and Encompass)

Called the “shelter-in-place payback”, the company is dropping 15% from its monthly fees, which will be refunded automatically to the customer's bank account or credit card, or as a credit towards future payments. Only customers who have made at least one payment on their policy will be eligible. The minimum payment will be $10, average should be between $25 to $30, depending on regular insurance costs in specific states.

American Family Insurance

Instead of counting percentage, AmFam is offering a universal one-time payback of $50 for each car insured. Checks will be issued to the customer's mailing address, though timing may differ as the company is yet to receive regulatory approval in some states.

Farmers and 21st Century Insurance

Both brands have promised a 25% refund on April premiums, with further adjustments possible as the situation develops. For those wishing to save more, Farmers is asking to contact insurance agents.

GEICO

Instead of refunding customers on existing policies, GEICO is offering a 15% discount on any new or renewed policy, for both cars and motorcycles. The discount will be active over the first 6 months for any new/renewed policy between April 8 and October 7. With average payments over such period averaging nearly $170, this represents roughly 1 month free.

Liberty Mutual

The insurer offers a 15% refund on both April and May's payments. No action is required from car owners, the amount will be sent either by check or by your last payment issue after regulatory approval. Late fees and cancellations due to non payment are also put on hold.
