Save a Lot - The history

Save a Lot was founded in 1977 by Bill Moran who wanted to create another option for the customers and compete with emerging mega-stores. The first store was opened in Cahokia, Illinois. Moran then expanded his business from one store to more than 1,000 locations across the whole country.

Since October 2016, the company is owned by Onex Corporation.

Save a Lot Food Stores Ltd. operates across 36 states.

Currently, there are over 1300 stores and the company's headquarter is located in Earth City, Missouri.

These stores are distinguished from ordinary supermarkets in that they offer most typical grocery products, but they feature less variety.

Most of the articles are not available on store shelves but sold straight from the cardboard shipping boxes. It is convenient, fast and significantly reduces costs.
