Gerbes Super Markets - The history
Gerbes Super Markets is a well-known American grocery supermarket chain based in Hutchinson, Kansas, which is a division of The Kroger Company. Frank J. Gerbes founded Gerbes Super Markets, Inc. in 1933 in Tipton, Missouri. In the following years, Gerbes built many buildings to house stores and offices.
In 1959, Mr. and Mrs. Gerbes instituted a profit-sharing and pension trust plan for all employees first in central Missouri.
In 1966, Gerbes merged with Dillon Companies and has been a division of Dillon ever since. Today, Gerbes operates eight stores in central Missouri, primarily in Columbia, Missouri, and Jefferson City, Missouri. Today, it is a thriving chain, growing more and more rapidly.
