While it's a dream catch for any conspiracy theorist, professor Charles Lieber's arrest in no way proves he was involved in the development of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's what you should know.
Although he was arrested back in late January, prof. Charles Lieber is still a trending subject of social media debates Some people see him as a traitor while others argue no connection to the ongoing pandemic can be found. And while conspiracy theorist websites continue to spread the story of the American scientist's involvement in developing the coronavirus, there is no proof of that whatsoever.
Supporters of the conspiracy theory argue that the arrest of prof. Charles Lieber alone is enough to claim his involvement in the coronavirus crisis, because the Harvard scientist has collaborated with the Wuhan University of Technology for years. Also, up to a month apart from Lieber, two Chinese nationals were indicted. Yanqing Ye, currently in China, was charged with visa fraud, making false statements, acting as an agent of a foreign government and conspiracy. Zaosong Zheng in turn attempted to smuggle 21 vials of biological research from the US to China, back in December, and was arrested.
