As millions are anxiously awaiting their stimulus checks, the IRS has announced a new app will help track the money before it arrives. The tool proved so popular before even being launched that it was one of the most googled phrases right after Easter.
With stimulus money expected to begin flowing this weeks, millions of Americans are eager to learn when their check is expected to arrive. Last week there was no easy answer, only a very rough estimate. But this week began with the IRS confirming a simple online tool will become available within days, allowing everyone to check the status of their payment.
Get My Payment app will see official launch on Friday and should see millions of downloads instantly, judging by the interest American have shown in googling its name on Monday. The app will allow one to check the personal stimulus payment status, confirm payment type (direct deposit or check) and enter direct deposite information if it hasn't been provided before.
Every American with annual earnings under $75,000 is eligible to receive a one-time $1,200 check, supplemented with $500 per child. Taxpayers with direct deposit used on their 2018 and 2019 tax returns are expected to get the money first, but the checks will be rolled out in phases rather than in a single day or week.
After all, there are some 60 million direct deposit taxpayers in line. That's why having the app should ease the anxiety and insecurity over planned expenses.
