Menards® - The history

Menards® is a family-owned business launched in 1958 with its headquarter in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Currently, it has approximately 300 stores across 14 states: Iowa, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Kentucky. Menards® stores chain is the most known in the US as the leader of the lowest prices, and the slogan "Save BIG Money!®" is well known by everyone!

Menards started from a thought about finding a way to do good business. In 1958 there was a significant demand for agricultural buildings in which machines and supplies could be stored. Demand resulted from the revolution in the agricultural sector, where new solutions were introduced, more mechanized. It was the moment when John Menard Jr., the founder of the company, decided to create his business and began to build poles.

After getting the basic building knowledge, John quickly got to work. He quickly picked up new orders and Menards® gained a great reputation. As the demand for Menards® pole buildings increased year by year, it was necessary to purchase more equipment and hire more people. After some time, the first land was purchased, and a small office and shop in Eau Claire were set up. With time, the demand for building materials grew, and also the pole building customers often asked about the possibility of buying wood and other materials. So, Menards® began to sell building materials on a cash-and-carry basis, and then, in 1969, the manufacturing and warehousing functions were added to the company. The company has expanded its assortment by beautiful interior and exterior doors, state-of-the-art composite decking, stone and block, fasteners and countertops and many others.

That's how the expansion in retail home improvement centers has started and now, Menards® is recognized as the retail home center leader of the Midwest.
