Game Stop - The history
Game Stop was founded in 1984 by two former Harvard Business School, James McCurry, and Gary M.Kusin. The two Harvard Graduates did have financial difficulties when starting the company and with the help of Ross Perot, who was their first investor, they were able to open their first store in Dallas’s North Park Center. The did name the company Game stop after Charles Babbage.
The company did focus on the selling of video games. During that time Nintendo Games were the most common and it accounted for nearly 75% of their sales. Game Stop was highly successful and by 1988, the company went public.
The company current headquarters is in Grapevine, Texas. The company has over 7,000 stores in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Apart from the numerous game stores outlets, the company also owns Game Informer, Simply Mac. Spring Mobile. Game Informer is a video game magazine, Simply Mac, resells Apple Products, while Spring Mobile deals with reselling of AT& T wireless.
