Dillons - The history

John S. Dillon opened his first "J.S. Dillon Cash Store" in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1913 and then only 2 years later, he was able to open his second shop. Unfortunately, due to World War I and his sons being in France, Dillon had to sell the company to his investment partners. However, when his sons returned, they opened a new store called "J.S. Dillon and Sons Store" in 1919.

The company developed the most in the 1950s. Later, in 1983, they decided to join the Kroger company.

Dillons operates mainly in Kansas focused on the area on Wichita, Topeka, and Lawrence.

The company is still based in Hutchinson and now controls 93 stores where over 12 000 people work.

There are also a few other banners under Dillon Stores Division such as Gerbes in Missouri, Baker's in Omaha, Nebraska, and a Food 4 Less store in Fremont, Nebraska.

At the moment, the company operates a dry grocery warehouse in Goddard, near Wichita, and a bakery manufacturing plant, dairy, frozen foods and perishable warehouses in Hutchinson.
