Weis Market - The history
In 1912, Harry and Sigmund Weis established Weis Markets when they opened a small neighborhood store known as Weis Pure Foods on Market Street in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Today, Harry’s grandson, Jonathan oversees a company with stores in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia and Virginia. Overall, the company employs more than 19,000 associates in their stores, distribution center, corporate office, and manufacturing facilities. Built on self-reliance, they process their milk and use the excess butterfat to make the Weis Quality Ice Cream with 50 flavors and growing!
The Weis Markets is proud to support local farmers. In Pennsylvania alone, the company annually buys more than 20 million pounds of locally grown produce, and they purchase local produce in all of the states where we have stores. The company and associates are committed to being good neighbors. Each year, Weis Markets support local food banks and food pantries through their Fight Hunger program, which generates hundreds of thousands of meals for people in need.
