Grocery Outlet - The history
Grocery Outlet is another supermarket chain operating on the American market.
The company was founded on June 11, 1946, in San Francisco, California by James Read. It all started with buying government surplus food products and selling it in stores across San Fransisco.
The first independent store of Read was opened in Redmond, Oregon in 1973. The company's first name was the Canned Foods, and it was renamed to Grocery Outlet in 1987.
Now, it is still managed by the Read family.
It offers discount, overstocked, closeout products and seasonal merchandise, both from the name brands and private label suppliers.
Most of the stores are managed by the local married couples operating in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Pennsylvania. Shops also have the option of individually selecting products and offers for specific customers living in a given region.
