Food City – The history
Food City operates in the United States for more than 60 years now serving customers from Arizona. It's a big ethnic/specialty food store chain selling everyday products but also traditional brands from other regions, mainly from Mexico.
Food City chain was bought by Bashas' in 1993. Since the acquisition of Food City, some of Bashas' stores, mostly the oldest ones from the 1950s and 1960s, have been transformed into Food City format.
In Arizona, El Rancho Market and "Fry's Mercado" launched by Kroger-owned Fry's Food and Drug, are the biggest competitors of Food City.
The Food City stores outside of Arizona are unrelated.
