Cardenas - The history
Cardenas was launched by the young and ambitious Jesus Cardenas, who left Mexico in 1957 to take part in the Bracero work program. His goal was to find a job that would provide a better life for his family.
For years, he worked hard in fields across the state of California but he also worked in Riverside, Oxnard and the Coachella Valley. But his dream was to start a family business. With the help of his wife and business partner, in 1981 in Ontario, he managed to open his first Cardenas Market.
In the beginning, they only sold fresh meat, cheese, and chorizo. However, the most popular were tasty dishes based on home recipes from Mrs. Cardenas's family home, Jalisco, Mexico.
In 2009, Cardenas successfully entered the Las Vegas market.
